Our Story
ARUWE’s story is of hope, perseverance, tenacity and focused determination. Having started as a community-based organisation in Nsangi sub-county in central Uganda in 2003 to a company limited by guarantee in 2008 and an NGO in 2013. ARUWE progressed from operating in just one sub-county to several districts in Uganda. Currently, we operate in seven districts across the Central and northwestern regions of Uganda.
Over the years, ARUWE has transitioned from providing solely economic support to women and girls to offering a comprehensive approach to their livelihoods and well-being. Recognizing the interconnectedness of various factors affecting women’s empowerment, ARUWE has leveraged its expertise to mobilize and support women and girls in addressing challenges related to economic development, health, education, and climate justice.
ARUWE’s programming is grounded in a rights-based approach that prioritizes women’s agency, participation, control, ownership, and decision-making over resources. We equip women and girls with the skills to engage with policymakers and demand quality services.
